Frequently asked questions

What can power users do with WinRAR?
Beyond basic zipping, WinRAR offers command-line automation with rar.exe and unrar.exe, precise control over folder structure and paths, in-archive text/Markdown preview, reusable compression profiles, and themes. The guides here cover each.
Does WinRAR have a plugin system?
No. There is no plugin SDK or store. Extensibility comes from the command-line tools, saved profiles, and themes (.theme.rar skins) that change appearance only.
Can WinRAR be scripted and scheduled?
Yes. Put a rar.exe command in a .bat file and schedule it with Windows Task Scheduler for unattended, repeatable backups.
Can WinRAR open Markdown files?
Yes, as plain text. Its internal viewer shows the raw .md source without extracting the file, though it does not render the formatting.
