In short: WinRAR has no cloud feature, but if you save your archives inside your cloud folder (OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox), the cloud app syncs them to every device automatically. Encrypt sensitive archives first.

WinRAR Cloud Sync Setup

Auto-sync your archives and vaults with OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox

Cloud apps sync whatever sits in their folder. So the simplest, most reliable “WinRAR cloud sync” is to keep your archives in that folder and let the provider handle uploads, versioning and multi-device access — with WinRAR doing the compression and encryption beforehand.

Good to know: There is no “WinRAR cloud”. The trick is to let your existing cloud client do the syncing: point WinRAR at a folder that already lives inside OneDrive/Drive/Dropbox, and every archive you save there is synced and versioned for you.

What you’ll need

How to set up WinRAR cloud sync step by step

1

Find your cloud folder

Make sure the desktop client is running. Your synced folder appears in File Explorer — e.g. C:\Users\You\OneDrive\, ...\Google Drive\ or ...\Dropbox\. Create a subfolder like Archives inside it.
2

Encrypt sensitive files first

For anything private, build a password-protected, AES-256 archive with Encrypt file names on, so the cloud only ever stores ciphertext. The full method is in back up your WinRAR vault.
3

Save the archive into the cloud folder

When creating an archive in WinRAR, set the destination path to your cloud subfolder (e.g. OneDrive\Archives\). As soon as it is written, the cloud client begins uploading it.
4

Let it sync, then check the other device

Wait for the client to show a green “synced” tick. On your second device, the same archive appears in the matching cloud folder — open it with WinRAR there.
5

Avoid sync conflicts

Do not edit the same archive on two devices at once. Let one device finish syncing (green tick) before opening or replacing the archive on another, so the provider does not create a “conflicted copy”.
6

Use version history as a safety net

OneDrive, Drive and Dropbox keep previous versions. If an archive is overwritten or corrupted, restore an earlier version from the provider’s web interface — a useful complement to your offline backup.

Frequently asked questions

Does WinRAR have built-in cloud sync?
No. WinRAR is a desktop archiver with no cloud feature. You get cloud sync by saving your archives inside a folder managed by OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, which then syncs them automatically.
How do I set up WinRAR with OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox?
Install and sign into the cloud desktop client, create a subfolder inside its synced folder, and set WinRAR to save your archives there. Each saved archive is then uploaded and synced to your other devices.
Should I encrypt archives before putting them in the cloud?
Yes, for anything sensitive. Create a password-protected AES-256 archive with file names encrypted, so the cloud provider only ever stores encrypted data.
How do I avoid cloud sync conflicts?
Do not open or replace the same archive on two devices simultaneously. Wait for one device to show a synced tick before working with the archive elsewhere, which prevents conflicted copies.
Can I recover an overwritten archive?
Often yes. OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox keep version history, so you can restore a previous version of the archive from the provider's website.
